The one spring trend worth adding to your closet

The one spring trend worth adding to your closet

This week Google released a report detailing the fashion trends people are searching for the most online. Tulle skirts, emoji sweats and midi skirts round out the top three.

While I’m not quite there yet,  I am keeping an open mind where the tulle skirt is concerned. But, I can say with absolute certainty that you will never – yes, I said NEVAH – see me in a pair of emoji jogger pants, so I’ll focus on the trend that excites me the most: the midi skirt. Cue dramatic music here!

It’s by far one of the smartest buys I’ve ever made, bar none. Why? Because it works with just about any outfit you can dream up. Going to a meeting? Try it with a jacket.

What if you want to keep things a bit more casual, yet still professional? Try a long sleeved collarless shirt like the one picture here.

Feeling a little sexy? Try it with a crop top and some strappy heels.

The possibilities are endless! And, it’s versatility like this that can transform a trend into a staple. I don’t know about you, but I get the feeling that this one is here to stay.

Let me know if you love the look as much as I do. Meanwhile, here are some budget-friendly pieces I found: skirt, top and heels, to help you create your own look for less.

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Black goes with everything.” It’s still just as true today as it was years ago. After all, any fashionista worth her salt knows the first lesson in fashion is the color black. A quick peek at the SisterLadyGirl Instagram page will reveal that it’s a definite fave of mine.

I’ve recently made a pledge to get outside of my style box and have quickly discovered that I have a real affinity for leopard prints. Yes … leopard prints! Like the color black, leopard is considered a neutral. You can pair it with just about anything and come away with a surprisingly good result.

Here, I decided to keep things simple; using leopard print peep-toe heals and a lightweight summer scarf to counterbalance the brightness of the pants. I think a minimalist approach worked well here. What about you? Do you have a favorite way to wear leopard prints? Let me know in the comments.

Love U! It’s not just a declaration. It’s a call to action.

Putting my best fashion foot forward

Putting my best fashion foot forward

Putting my best fashion foot forward

When I signed up to attend Tampa’s first-ever Blogger’s Ball, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. For weeks, I cyber stalked every social page I could find about the event, which was being billed as a place where “top blogging influencers and publishers, readers, fashion and lifestyle enthusiasts” were set to converge and show just how fabulous they were.

Admittedly, this event was a bit outside of my comfort zone. But, I’ll be the first to say that I was pleasantly surprised! I met a number of fellow fashion bloggers from across the Bay area and learned that they’re not altogether different from me. We’re all looking for the perfect platform to share our style aesthetic, make connections and have a good time. And, the Blogger’s Ball was just perfect!

Better still, it was in the name of a good cause; supporting Redefining Refuge, a local charity organization “dedicated to fighting for women and children who have been victims of the depraved injustice of sexual abuse.”

I’m really looking forward to becoming more entrenched in Tampa Bay’s fashion community and getting to know my fellow bloggers better in the coming year. In the meantime, I’ll bask in the fashion forward glow of this past weekend’s events.

From “blah” to “ta-dah”: Necklaces that enhance every neckline

I’m not always great about choosing the right necklace for the right neckline. There are so many things to consider, particularly if you’re wearing a statement piece.

Regardless of what you select — silver or gold, multicolored or monochromatic, bold or understated — your choice should enhance your style, not detract from or overpower it.

So, how do you select the perfect necklace to take your outfit from “blah” to “ta-dah?” Check out this guide I’ve put together with suggestions for necklaces to enhance every neckline. What do you think? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to subscribe.

Relaxed elegance

There are so many great things to see and experience here in the city and this year, the hubby and I have committed to getting out and exploring even more of them.  Our first stop was Ulele (pronounced You-lay-lee), a gem of a joint on Tampa’s Riverwalk. Check it out here.

I absolutely love date night! But figuring out what to wear on date night? Not so much. At Ulele, diners can choose to eat either inside or outside, so the atmosphere is a very casual one.  I’ve never been able to figure out what the term “casual dining” means, so this proved to be particularly challenging for me.

When in doubt, I tend to go with comfort. That’s why I chose this off-the-shoulder jumper. It’s one of my favorite fashion trends for Spring.  It fit well with the relaxed surroundings we were in, and its simplicity added a sense of elegance.

Spring is here! So, of course that means bright sun, bright colors and lots of floral prints! Temps today are in the high 70s, so I decided to pair this flowing skirt with a cute little top that shows a little skin, but not too much! I love scarves and think they’re fine to wear year-round. I’ve had this little number forever and today, it turned out to be the perfect accessory to give this laid-back look a little pizzazz!

Admit it, you’re worth it

Admit it, you’re worth it

Admit it, you’re worth it

If you’re anything like me, you have a very bad habit of allowing the everyday events of life to completely engulf you. The responsibilities of home, of the job and even your social and civic circles can be mind boggling. I mean, when you start adding, “Check off items on my ‘To Do’ list” to your actual ‘To Do’ list, it’s time for an intervention.

But where do you start? For me, spring represents a time for renewal and restoration. So why not start with your own perspective?

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that keeping stress at bay isn’t easy, but it’s not impossible. But, here’s the catch: You’ve got to be willing to admit to yourself that you’re worth it. Here are three simple ideas I have to help you get started:

  • Buy something you don’t need, but absolutely, positively want –At the risk of sounding selfish … sometimes, it is all about you and there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself on occasion. It doesn’t matter what it is. If you want it, go get it. For some, it may mean the difference between eating an ice cream cone and purchasing a new car. I fall in the middle of that range, having recently purchased these little beauties from Tiffany & Co just because I wanted them.

  • Take a “daycation” –Everybody deserves a chance to unwind and you’re no exception. Even God rested on the seventh day, so cut yourself some slack. Letting go is tough, I know. Whatever you may be concerned or anxious about – bills, meetings, kids’ events, errands – will all be there tomorrow. So, for your peace of mind, take a moment and just exhale.
  • Walk it out – Maybe you’re overcommitted and taking that day for yourself doesn’t make sense right now. Perhaps your budget won’t allow you to buy that thing you really want. But, never fear, a nice long walk will do wonders for clearing the cobwebs. A while back, when I worked from home, I would routinely take little strolls around my house. I’m sure my neighbors thought I was off my rocker, but I didn’t care. That small change of scenery never failed and I always stepped back to my desk feeling refreshed and ready to take on whatever was waiting for me.

Do you have any secrets for de-stressing? Let me know in the comments.
