The secret to finding a better fitting dress

This shift dress I picked up at Nordstrom a few years back has become a must-have during the late spring and summer months when the heat and humidity in Florida make being outside for any length of time downright brutal.

This particular style of dress is cool and comfortable and the simple lines make glamming it up or toning it down an absolute breeze. And, with temps in the low 90s, I’ll take one any way I can get it!

I have a classic “pear” body type; smaller on the top and larger on the bottom and ironically, I’ve always avoided wearing these types of dresses because they just never looked quite right on me.

I’ve got “junk in the trunk,” and this style of dress was frustrating for me because it wasn’t very accommodating in the hip area. I thought curvy girls weren’t meant to wear dresses like this.

Then, I discovered the secret to getting a better fit: buy a size or two larger. The initial shot to my ego quickly dissipated when I saw how effortlessly the material fell into place. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s never to put too much stock into sizes. None are altogether true or absolute. What matters most is how you feel. 1. Loved the dress on you yesterday. You would never have known it was an older dress, it fit you beautifully.

    • Thanks, Lita! I tend to hide stuff from myself, so every now and then I go closet diving and sometimes come away with some amazing finds!

  2. I adore this outfit and the way it fits. It is refreshing to see a young person who does not rigidly abide by fashion dictates. Instead, you experiment and go for class and proper fit. I have never seen you look anything other than appropriate to the occasion. Keep up the fashion and lifestyle hints, because I love them!
