Even if she wasn’t my daughter, I’d probably still be obsessed with her. ⁣ ⁣ A few days ago, I was listening to @_itsmechel.c_ talk about her grad school experiences. In the spring of 2022, she’ll earn her Master of Applied Behavior Analysis degree.⁣ ⁣ She was talking about the classes, the workload and, of course, her grades. She believes (and, so do I) that she has what it takes to go on and earn a PhD. Maybe even open her own behavioral therapy practice one day.⁣ ⁣ “And then what?” I asked.⁣ ⁣ When I was younger, I failed to see a future for myself beyond the age of 40. And, I’ll be damned if I allow my daughter to underestimate what’s possible for her. So, I challenge her regularly to consider what comes next. ⁣ ⁣ It’s what I wish someone had done for me. So, today, I’ll be your “someone” and challenge you to ask yourself ...⁣ ⁣ • Where else could you go?⁣ • What else could you do?⁣ • Who else could you be?⁣ • And then what?⁣ ⁣ Being open to what comes next means the possibilities that exist are endless -- for you, for me, for our daughters and their daughters. ⁣ ⁣ It’s the legacy-building for me.⁣ ⁣ I invite you to start exploring what comes next for you too. Sometimes, I have to laugh at myself. The other day when I was out running errands with my daughter, along comes a car rolling through the parking lot with its speakers blasting … LOUD! I look at her and say, “Why do we ALLLLLLLL have to hear it?” It was at that moment when I knew. I’d just completed my transformation into my parents. There’s so much you can’t see in these photos. ⁣ ⁣ 🚘 Like the woman who drove her car allllll the way down to the dead end where I was standing to ‘investigate’ what was going on. ⁣ ⁣ ☕️ Or, the second woman who stood in her backyard casually sipping a cup of coffee as she stared in disdain at me and my family who decided on a whim to do a photoshoot. ⁣ ⁣ 🖕🏾Or, the driver of a black pickup truck with opaque tinted windows who arrived within minutes and parked at the end of the block to observe.⁣ ⁣ It’s been a few days since this happened, and I’m still disgusted. I can’t help but wonder what these people thought they were ‘gonna do’ to me and my family if they collectively decided that we didn’t belong there? In our own neighborhood. Where we’ve lived for 21 years. In broad daylight? ⁣ ⁣ Since they were so interested, the hubby and I decided to give them a show. As my daughter and pandemic picture-taker yelled, “Weeerrrk iiiitttt!” “Owwwwn iiiiittt!!” We did just that. Now, THIS is what mastering midlife is all about! Over the weekend, I officially crossed over from being a graduate of @newhousesu to being a @syracuseu alumni! Yay! Going back to school after 30 years was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. This experience serves as an immutable truth that I CAN. And, I did. So grateful to my family and friends who encouraged me along the way. Let the second act begin!! AD | It’s the inches for me! 😍 With the way my midlife metabolism is set up, I’ll count it as a win. Honestly speaking, when I entered the @the_diesel_physique challenge, I didn’t know what to expect. Body image is something I’ve always struggled with. But, for the first time in a long time, I see my body exactly how it is — strong, healthy and deserving of grace and respect. Six weeks in and I’m down five pounds thanks to the constant (and much appreciated) encouragement from @shandamariesullivan. Yay! With patience and consistency, I know I’ll eventually hit my goal -- maybe in time for summer! The next challenge starts on May 28th. Are you in?
