Maybe you were beyond burned out from being in a toxic job.⁣
⁣
Maybe you watched a friend launch her dream project and you asked yourself: Why not me?⁣
⁣
I felt like I’d lost my way professionally after being in the communications field for nearly 30 years.⁣
⁣
If you’re anything like me, then you’ve probably experienced some trigger event that made you wonder: Is this all that life has to offer?⁣
⁣
From the time I graduated college until the day I enrolled in one of the country’s premiere communications schools, the internet went from not even being a thing to a whole entire “internet of things,” with social media, smart phones, apps, wearables and a whole host of other innovations that completely changed the way we communicate and relate to one another as human beings.⁣
⁣
In the midst of being a wife, a mother, a daughter, a mentor, a bestie, a prayer warrior and all the other labels I’d been assigned over the years, I somehow lost sight of what I wanted out of this life.⁣
⁣
It’s been a little over two years since I was inspired to research what my options were. Because of that one decision, this month I’ll officially graduate from @newhousesu with my Master’s in Communications. ⁣
⁣
But, make no mistake ... this is just the beginning of my story. ⁣
⁣

I still dream about what I want to be when I grow

I still dream about what I want to be when I grow up. Just because I’m older doesn’t mean that I’ve stopped wanting to experience and learn.⁣
⁣
That’s easy for me to admit now, but it wasn’t always the case. I was the queen of online courses. I took a ton of them in lieu of what I really wanted to do, which was to go back to school and get my higher degree.⁣
⁣
Initially, I let my age get in the way. What in the world did I think I was doing going back to school at this stage in my life?⁣
⁣
That’s when those last two words hit me like a ton of bricks. “My Life.” It’s mine to do with whatever I choose.
⁣
Dreams don’t have a shelf life. Neither do I.⁣

She is a smart, sassy, road-tested woman over 40 who still has plenty of fuel left in her tank. ⁣
⁣
She has a desire to create a deeply satisfying life that she genuinely loves, but needs some inspiration, and a little bit of guidance to get what she wants. ⁣
⁣
She doesn’t often see herself or her interests reflected in the media and is looking for a place where she can be seen. ⁣
⁣
She wants “real” tools and resources that exist specifically to help her navigate the challenges of growing older in the modern world with style and grace. ⁣
⁣
I recently launched a resource library for this kind of woman. Women who have lived and are learning to live again. It includes so many things I wish I’d had access to when I started my midlife journey. ⁣

I can only imagine how hard my 21-year-old self would laugh if I could travel back in time and tell her that one day she would think doing nothing, going nowhere and seeing no one would feel decadent. It’s just one more reason I’m thankful for being older and wiser because 21-year-old me has no idea what she’s missing!! 😉

I’m one of those people who actually checks on her strong friends. This week, I discovered one of my girls was not doing okay. ⁣
⁣
Unfortunately, I can’t change what happened, but I can listen, I can be available and I can be a safe place for her. ⁣
⁣
It’s not exactly mature to say that endings suck. But they do. Especially when you’re not ready to let go.⁣
⁣
But I’m a true believer in the fact that we can’t heal without hurting. Sometimes, the cure for the pain is the pain. Sending so much love to my sweet friend right now. ⁣
⁣
