Last month, the Sisterladygirl Facebook page hit a milestone by surpassing 1,000 followers. It only took me seven years to do it.
I know what you’re probably thinking. Seven years seems like a really long time to reach an arguably smallish following.
But, hear me out …
There are three things I’ve learned over time that might help you rise above the rut and build the momentum you need to reach your goals a lot sooner than I did:
SisterLadyGirl started seven years ago as a hair blog. A few years later, I began posting about personal style for women over 40.
My goals, my strategy, my audience — everything — was completely undefined, so my page saw minimal growth.
For those who’ve followed me for the last three years or so, you know I LOVE to talk about midlife reinvention, changing the narrative about what’s possible for women in midlife, and how to become a midlife sidepreneur.
The operative word here is: midlife.
Narrowing my focus has helped me become a more familiar figure to my audience of Gen X women, and they now know what to expect from me. These have been two of the biggest contributors to my ability to go from stuck to started and get growing.
Today, SLG functions as a boutique consulting agency specializing in building the health, wealth and self of modern midlife women through curriculum, community, conversations and curated events.
I would never have discovered that if I had not given myself time and space to:
Start >> Fail >> Learn >> Pivot >> Start again
Rushing for fast growth might result in sacrificing a deeper understanding of what your tribe wants to hear from you and engage with.
Like it or not, building something new requires patience, so take your time to create a narrative that resonates with your audience, your recruiter, your customer, your family, or your colleagues, and the growth will surely follow. That’s just the law of attraction!
For a long time, I was hesitant to share personal aspects of my life, like photos of my family, in my content.
But I’ve found that people appreciate knowing more about the woman behind the brand.
By opening up a bit more, I’ve found that I can create more meaningful connections with the women in my community. And that connection can lead to more caring — about me, how I can help them and what I have to offer.
Breaking through mindset barriers takes time and patience. That’s why staying focused and being deliberate are so key.
As a woman in midlife, you have unique experiences and perspectives to share with the world. Being focused, intentional and vulnerable can help you reach your goals a lot sooner.
